Welcome to my website, I’m Jim. I live in Eastbourne Old Town and work in Hastings as a firefighter. Painting and sketching has always been a passion of mine, from drawing and colouring in Red Indians at primary school (I don’t know why, I think my parents had a Wild West book) and selling pictures of Smurfs to my ‘wonderful’ grandparents at 5p a time, through ‘A’ level Art, then twenty odd years of painting and sketching for relaxation and the odd wedding present, to my present day scenes of Sussex that you will see on this site.

I have designed caricature wedding invitations and retirement cards for work colleagues, Christmas cards featuring heavily my niece and nephew, Sophie and Zach, in a variety of entirely fabricated poses and many commissioned portraits and paintings of peoples pets.

I feel most comfortable working in pencil, charcoal and acrylic paint but occasionally chance my arm with watercolours. Over the last couple of years I have been concentrating on scenes of Eastbourne and the surrounding areas, using an ‘Art Deco’ style, with a bright but limited palette in an attempt to depict the fantastic light and views to be enjoyed here in Sussex. Most of these scenes I originally painted, in acrylics, on boxed canvases. Then, once I decided to have prints made, I needed to re-create the scenes onto flat canvas board. Therefore in some cases I have two originals, so to speak.

I happily accept commissions, be it of landscapes, people or animals, and am always happy to discuss any request you may have.

In the last couple of months I have been fortunate enough to join an ‘Art & Craft Collective’ shop called ‘Starlings’ on Sackville Road, Bexhill, near The De La Warr Pavilion, where my prints and some originals are for sale along with over twenty other ‘arty types’. It is well worth a visit!
